Who we are
Loughs Agency’s mission is to sustainably manage, promote and develop the fisheries and marine resources of the Foyle and Carlingford catchment areas.
With an area of operation covering over 4,500km2, all of the loughs, rivers and waterways in this vast area fall under Loughs Agency’s remit.
The organisation was established as part of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998 as one of the cross-border bodies between the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Government of Ireland.
It is the successor to the Foyle Fisheries Commission, which was set up in 1952 by the Irish and Northern Irish Governments.
