What is it?

Water Warriors is a programme developed by Loughs Agency to give schools and pupils a taster for what they are all about - conservation, protection, and encouraging students to learn all about it! Through a diverse range of activities, the Loughs agency team delivered activities including:

  • Marine Machine Roadshow: Our immersive trailer featuring an interactive discovery tank has parked up outside schools up and down the Foyle and Carlingford area allowing children to see the species found in their local rivers, as well as engaging in bio-diversity games to tackle climate change together.

  • Water Warriors interactive experience day: Taking place in Derry, Omagh and Newry, we bring science to the stage - with live experiments and games for children to network and build relationships.

  • Art project: Together in 2023, pupils across a range of schools created an animation based on water pollution and the impact this has on our local waters and species. View the animation here.

  • Writing project: In 2024, schools collaborated and cowrote a storybook on Sammi the Salmon, illustrated by a local pupil.

  • Water Activities: Each year, students swap the classroom for their local rivers, diving into outdoor adventures such as canoeing or sailing to explore their local natural landscapes.

Who is it for?

The Water Warriors activities are aimed at pupils in first and second year secondary schools within the Foyle and Carlingford areas.
