Loughmacrory is a 24 hectare lake with a population of wild brown trout that is also stocked with rainbow trout. Other fish species present include pike and perch. Loughmacrory has good facilities – a 1.3 mile walk around the lake, toilets, a club house for members and five jetties. The jetties can be utilised by wheelchair users.
Loughmacrory has hosted several prestigious competitions such as the World Youth Fly Fishing Championships, the Irish Ladies Fly Fishing Association Championships and the 2018 Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships.
Guides, coaches and angling packages are available through the club – the Loughmacrory & Murrins District AA (LMDAA). LMDAA have three angling coaches qualified to level 2 and fully licensed to carry out events for schools and groups.
Boat fishing is also permitted using the club’s fleet of dedicated boats. A Loughs Agency rod licence is compulsory to fish this water. LMDAA require anglers to operate on a catch and release basis until 1st September, after which there is a bag limit of 2 rainbow trout per angler per day.
