Loughs Agency’s Ambassadors Programmes are designed to connect young people with their local waterways, coastline and wildlife through recreation, volunteering and conservation opportunities.

Using the John Muir Award, we encourage our Ambassadors to discover more, explore more, conserve more and share more. Since 2014 over 100 teenagers from the North West have graduated as Foyle Ambassadors with a greater understanding and respect for the river that so many of us take for granted.

Ambassadors do not only build lasting connections with wild places, they also build lasting friendships with people from different backgrounds. The experiences they gain provides them with skills for life through fun, friendship and adventure.

Loughs Agency feel that our Ambassadors Programme has the potential to reach many more young people, creating stronger communities and inspiring everyone to love our waterways.

The Foyle Ambassador programme is a FREE Easter programme aimed at 13-16 year olds from the Foyle area who are interested in the enjoying and exploring the natural environment.

Participants will have the opportunity to take part in a range of activities from water-sports to conservation projects. Throughout the programme they will have the chance to discover the River Foyle, gain qualifications, learn new skills, make new friends and discover new possibilities and opportunities.

The common theme of the project is the river and the purpose of the programme is to get young people connected with the River Foyle, its tributaries, estuary, coast, its wildlife and the recreational opportunities it holds. The hope is that participants on the programme will develop a new and positive understanding of the river and its resources.

If this sounds right up your street, please fill in the expression of interest form.

The programme is delivered by Loughs Agency in partnership with Cooperation Ireland and supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Reconciliation Fund.
