About the fish counter programme

Loughs Agency collects data using the fish counter technology as a management tool on many of the Rivers within Foyle and Carlingford. The data is used to make decisions on managing the fishery as they provide vital data to the Agency about the movement of both adult salmonids and smolt salmonids on the rivers. Each counter records the number of fish travelling up stream and down stream. It is even possible to tell the size of the fish by examining the signal it creates as it travels over the counter boards!
