Drumnakilly Burn
Strule Trust habitat scheme works were recently completed on two sites along the Drumnakilly Burn, a tributary of the Camowen River. The works were identified and supervised by Loughs Agency.
Sections of the burn had suffered from erosion due to livestock trampling. Deflector groynes were installed to narrow the river and create a natural flow suitable juvenile salmonids. Nursery habitat was installed using rubble mats to increase habitat for juvenile salmonids.
Both areas were also fenced off to protect the works and to create a natural riparian buffer strip which will be benefit fish populations for years to come.
