Loughs Agency are delighted to be a strategic partner with Derry City and Strabane District Council for the Foyle Maritime Festival.

Loughs Agency along with our delivery partners are offering the public a wide range of activities and spectacles on the water from Kayaking to Canoeing to Yoga on Stand-Up Paddleboards!

With loads of spaces available and tickets from as little as £5 there is plenty of opportunity to make a splash and get involved on the water.

 

Driftwood Canoe Club - Foyle Bubble Challenge

Driftwood Canoe Club and The Loughs Agency are bringing the Foyle Bubble Challenge back to the Foyle Maritime Festival. Teams of three will take part in a timed challenge around a series of obstacles, so if you ever wanted to literally go up the ‘Foyle in a Bubble’ now you can get your chance!!!

Foyle Paddlers - Foyle Paddlers Twilight Session*

Foyle Paddlers will take members of the public on a kayak and canoe trip where the boats will be beautifully illuminated and will provide a spectacular sight for passing pedestrians along the riverfront.

Transport will be provided to return participants to their start point.

Set off from Council Pontoon to Lisahally

Foyle Paddlers - Foyle Paddlers Canoe Taster Sessions

Foyle Paddlers will provide canoe taster sessions to introduce beginners to the sport of kayaking. Members of the public will be given the opportunity to receive instruction in paddling different types of kayaks and canoes along a sheltered area in a safe and friendly environment. Each session lasts 25 minutes.

  • Saturday 23rd July 12.00 – 18.00

Kayak / Canoe and Safety equipment will be provided – Wetsuits are not required. A range of crafts will be available, ranging from single person kayaks, double kayaks, and open canoes which can take 2 adults and 2 children.

Foyle Paddlers - Foyle Race

Foyle Paddlers will host the annual Foyle Race which is part of the Canoe Association of Northern Ireland (CANI) race league on Saturday 23rd July to coincide with the Maritime Festival.

The event will involve participants from all over the island racing in various canoe craft over set distances on the Foyle.

This year the starting / finishing line is right in the city centre to make the event more spectator friendly.

This event is only open to CANI members or members of CANI affiliated clubs.

Far and Wild - Stand Up Paddle Yoga

Far and Wild invites you to chill out on the water in a SUP session with a difference!

Try your favourite Yoga postures out on your SUP board under the watchful eye and instruction of our experienced guide. The session includes beginner instruction on SUPing on top of your Xtreme chill-out, all wrapped up in a cosy 40 min bundle.

Over 16’s only.

Far and Wild - Dragon SUP Yoga*

Dragon SUP is the high-end side of SUPing where a 4-person crew goes head-to-head on one of Red Paddle’s exclusive Dragon SUPs, in a time challenge to come out overall competition winner.

This epic will take place on the Foyle near the Clipper Quay and be a spectacle to enjoy for those on and off the water.

Over 16’s only.

Foyle Sailability Sailing Sessions

Experience sailing sessions with Foyle Sailability!

Foyle Sailability is a cross border voluntary organisation which aims to deliver opportunities for sailing and other water-based activities to people with disabilities from across the North West region of Ireland.

During the Foyle Maritime Festival, Foyle Sailability will hold half hour sailing sessions on Wednesday 20th July and Sunday 24th July to provide the disabled and disadvantaged the opportunity to get on the water for fun, safe and entertaining sessions.

Binevenagh Adventure - Kayak Taster Sessions

Ahoy there!  Fancy something a bit different at this year’s Foyle Maritime Festival?  Well…for the first time, the amazing Binevenagh Adventures will be offering an hour- long session on a ‘sit on top kayak’ at the Foyle Marina.

Under the watch of qualified instructors, you’ll get some experience of this type of kayak.  And don’t worry, safety is our watchword – but the craic will be mighty!!

If you want to stay in the marina area, no problem.  But if you fancy trying out your new-found skills and building your confidence, we can head further out and take a closer look at the yachts and other boats from an angle which only a handful of people will get to experience!

Creggan Country Park - Angling Sessions

Have you ever wanted to spend more time in the great outdoors?

Surrounded by silence, only the peaceful sound of birds chirruping, and lines being cast to break the stillness of the day. Well, a spot of angling at Creggan Country Park offers just that.

Angling is a great distraction from the world, so why not unplug and relax and just forget everything for a while.

When you arrive at the gates of our Forest Park entrance, our experienced staff will greet you and take you for a fantastic day of fly fishing on our stocked lake.

So come along, take to the water with a fishing rod and enjoy the great outdoors!

Creggan Country Park - Water activities

Creggan Country Park is offering fun family friendly days out in a controlled fresh water environment. Come along and explore the rich natural heritage of the park and join in activities such as: canoeing; splash sessions; open water swimming; paddle boarding and more!
