Recent prosecutions by the Loughs Agency for illegal fishing in the Foyle area.

Illegal Fishing on River Roe

At a sitting of Limavady Magistrates Court on the 18th of January 2012, a man from Ballykelly was given a fine for unlicensed angling on the River Roe in June of 2011.  Mr George Hynds of 16 Fort Drive in Ballykelly, was apprehended by warranted officers of the Loughs Agency. The District Judge was advised that Mr Hynds has 25 previous convictions for illegal fishing activity.  The Judge fined Mr Hynds the sum of £200 and ordered him to pay court costs of £66 and legal costs of £75.

At another sitting of Limavady Magistrates Court on the 18th of January 2012, a man from Ballymena was given a fine for unlicensed angling and angling without the required permit on the River Roe in June of 2011.  Mr Roman Victraris of Ballywatermoy Road in Glarryford, Ballymena, was apprehended by warranted officers of the Loughs Agency. The District Judge fined Mr. Victraris the sum of £200 and ordered him to pay court costs of £16 and legal costs of £75 and gave him eight weeks within which to pay same.

Fined for illegal fishing on the River Derg

At a sitting of Strabane Magistrates Court on the 12th of January 2012, a man from Castlederg was given a fine for unlicensed angling and illegally retaining 3 brown trout on the River Derg in July of 2011.  Mr David Bonner of 14 Alexander Park in Castlederg, was apprehended by warranted officers of the Loughs Agency. The District Judge fined Mr Bonner the sum of £175 and ordered him to pay court costs of £19 and legal costs of £75.
