Kick start your career in the outdoors by becoming an Assistant Canoe Coach, an Assistant Angling Coach or gain a Level 1 Powerboat qualification. In conjunction with Kick Start to Work and Derry City and Strabane District Council (DCSDC), we are now recruiting over 18’s for the Maritime Ambassador Programme, starting in October. We are looking for participants with an interest in one or all of the following water sports: canoeing, powerboating and fishing.
The programme is open to 18 – 65 year olds who are unemployed and not in education or training and living in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area. The course is free and all equipment, food and transport is provided. Successful participants will have an opportunity to gain the following qualifications:
RYA Power Boating Level 1. This training takes approximately 1 – 2 days to complete and covers techniques for launch and recovery, boat handling and use of safety equipment.
Paddle Sport Coaching Certificate Level 1. This training takes 12 days to complete, spread over a number of weeks. During this course you will gain the British Canoe Union 1 star & 2 star, Foundation Safety Rescue Course and the Level 1 Paddle Sport Coaching Certificate For further details on the Level 1 Certificate click here.
Assistant Angling Coach Level 1. Over 5 days of training, learn to fish or refresh your knowledge through the CAST Awards and learn the fundamentals of coaching angling through a mixture of indoor and outdoor based learning.
Participants will also complete an employability course.
