Today, on the opening day of the season on the River Finn, anglers gathered at Glenmore Lodge before casting their line. During the closed season, Glenmore Fishery Manager Jarlath Winters has been busy working with Loughs Agency through their Sustainable Development Fund to develop the angling facilities at Glenmore Lodge. Anglers now have access to a fishing hut complete with stove and drying room to dry out their wet gear (and themselves!) at the end of a day on the river. Other elements include a composting toilet, car park, rainwater harvesting system and improved signage.
Lionel Knobbs, Angling Development Manager at Loughs Agency said ‘The Sustainable Development Fund project aims to enhance the experience of visitors, thus sustaining visitor numbers and prompting recommendations to others. With these enhanced facilities, private beats on the River Finn and quality accommodation for visiting anglers, Glenmore is now a one-stop-shop.’
Jarlath Winters, Fishery Manager at Glenmore Lodge said ‘I would like to pass on a huge thank you to Loughs Agency and their Sustainable Development Fund project for providing funding that has seen the creation of premiere angling facilities at the lodge. Hopefully this project will help add to the enjoyment of people coming to Glenmore, helping sustain and encouraging the continued use of the river. The facilities at Glenmore are now amongst the best provided and exceed what anglers encounter across Ireland and many of Europe’s other top rivers.’ Anyone looking to fish at Glenmore contact Jarlath on 00353868133869.
