Coarse Fishing - advice based on regulations

Fishing, Coarse Angling

29.Mar.2012

Good practice guidance when coarse fishing.

Groundbait - Use of groundbait is permitted while angling for coarse fish.

Live bait - Live fish cannot be used as bait in fresh waters in the Foyle and Carlingford areas.

Coarse fish (including eels) - It is prohibited to kill coarse fish (including eels) in the Foyle and Carlingford area waters (however, see regulation on pike, below). All such coarse fish and eels caught must be carefully handled and returned alive and unharmed to the water.

Smelt, Shad and Lamprey - In the interests of conservation, anglers are urged to return fish of these species to the water unharmed.
