Senior Scientific Officer – Analytics Lead

The Loughs Agency is inviting applications for the above post.

Salary Scale: £36,812 to £40,473 p/a

Full time 40 hours per week (to include 1 hr per day unpaid lunch break)

Temporary Position to December 2022

Location: HQ, 22 Victoria Road, Prehen, Derry~Londonderry

Purpose of the Role

A unique and exciting opportunity in an inter-regional, multi-institutional setting; we are seeking a candidate to work on a multi-species marine telemetry project combining studies on anadromous and marine fishes, cetaceans and seals in the sea around Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland. As part of this ambitious project the Senior Scientific Officer – Analytics Lead within this team will help ensure the delivery of high quality spatial models and management plans for a range of mobile marine species (i.e., salmonids, elasmobranchs and seals) derived from the acoustic arrays. The role will also require the post holder to possess exceptional scientific report writing skills and experience in geospatial predictive modelling as well as the ability to manage the Higher Scientific Officers and other project staff as necessary to ensure agreed Project targets and outputs are met.  The post holder will also be required to provide specialist advice on issues to the Project Board and other partners as appropriate.

Higher Scientific Officer (x2)

Purpose of the Role

A unique and exciting opportunity in an inter-regional, multi-institutional setting; we are seeking a candidates to work on a multi-species marine telemetry project combining studies on anadromous and marine fishes, cetaceans and seals in the sea around Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland.  The two Higher Scientific Officers (HSOs) within this team will be answerable to the two Senior Scientific Officers (SSOs – Telemetry and Analytics Leads, respectively) and responsible for assisting in the installation of the acoustic receiver network.  The HSOs will also help ensure the delivery of high quality spatial models and management plans for a range of mobile marine species (i.e. salmonids, elasmobranchs and seals) derived from the arrays and fieldwork.

Temporary Assistant Scientific Officer (x3)

The Loughs Agency is inviting applications for the above posts (Three  positions available).

Salary Scale: £20,692 to £22,739 p/a

Full time 40 hours per week (to include 1 hr per day unpaid lunch break)

Temporary Positions of Varying durations, initially 4-7 months.

Location: HQ, 22 Victoria Road, Prehen, Derry~Londonderry

Closing date for applications: 3pm on Wednesday 17th  May 2019.

Purpose of the Role

Assistant Scientific Officers are responsible to their designated Higher Scientific Officer for carrying out a range of scientific, monitoring and other duties relating to shellfish stock assessments and shellfish reproductive analysis studies, water quality monitoring or fisheries stock monitoring.  The Assistant Scientific Officer may also be required to undertake other duties in other areas of responsibility within the Foyle / Carlingford Areas or adjoining areas as directed by their Higher Scientific Officer or respective Director. The ASO will also deliver reports to the Senior Biologist, the Director of Aquaculture and the CEO of the Loughs Agency when required.
