Legislation and Data Protection Officer

Salary Scale £29,317 – £31,446

Purpose of the Role

 The Legislative Officer and Data Controller will be responsible for:

  • fulfilling a wide range of legal functions and requirements
  • acting as a link between the Agency and its legal representatives in courts in both jurisdictions (Northern Ireland and Ireland) and within sponsor departments
  • the development of information management strategies, protocols and controls to ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018, the Loughs Agency standards, the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Human Rights Act.

Essential Criteria

  1. An honours degree in Law or another relevant subject.
  2. Experience in a law related post. A minimum of 2 years’.
  3. Experience in a data protection/privacy role. A minimum of 1 year within the last 4.
  4. A full and current driving licence held for more than 2 years (with no more than 3 penalty points).                     

Desirable Criteria

  1. Post Graduate qualification in Law or other relevant subject.
  2. 4 years relevant post qualification experience.
  3. Experience in drafting legal documentation for legislation including regulatory impact assessments, equality impact assessments and consultation documents.
  4. Understanding of and practical experience of applying the Data Protection Act, the Freedom of Information Act and other related legislation, standards and codes of practice.
  5. A good working knowledge of information security including ISO/IEC 27001 Information Security Management Standard
